BIOGRAPHY AND PERSONALITY OF A FAMOUS TAURUS: BARBARA STREISAND

Singer, actress, and director. Born on April 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York. With legions of fans, Barbra Streisand has been one of the most popular entertainers in film and on stage. She describes herself as an “actress who sings.”

Starting out, Barbra Streisand was as a nightclub singer and found great success with her debut album, The Barbra Streisand Album (1963). She won two Grammy Awards for this work, including Album of the Year. Her next career triumph was as the lead in the Broadway show Funny Girl (1964). Streisand reprised the role in the 1968 film version and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her work. Other popular films featuring Streisand from this time include Hello Dolly (1969) and The Way We Were (1973) opposite Robert Redford

During her extensive film career, Barbra Streisand has taken on many roles both in front of and behind the camera. She served as a producer on A Star Is Born (1976) as well as co-starring with Kris Kristofferson. She even wrote some of the music for the film and won an Academy Award for “Evergreen” along with Paul Williams for Best Original Song. Stretching her talents even further, Streisand produced, directed, co-wrote, and starred in Yentl (1983), the tale of a girl who pretends to be a boy to study religion. She also directed, produced, and starred in Prince of Tides (1991) with Nick Nolte as well as The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996) with Jeff Bridges and Lauren Bacall.

Once married to actor Elliott Gould, Barbra has one son, Jason, from that union. She is currently married to actor James Brolin.
